Like so many of you, my decision to go remote came from a series of events in my life. I grew up in the Netherlands, in a small town in the North with little freedom. For years, I lived in an abusive environment where my choices were taken away. The idea of living life on my terms felt like a distant dream. So, when I finally broke free, I made myself a promise: “I will always be free and never live in a cage again” And to my knowledge, I did. I started travelling the world nonstop, worked in different countries and continents, and lived every day as if it were my last. I tried multiple different roles, from recruitment to hospitality, customer service, HR, and Sales. Anything that I could get my hands on. On paper, I was doing great. But underneath, I was struggling a lot. My childhood was catching up on me, and I lost myself in alcohol and drugs for two decades. Until I got a wake-up call one day in the autumn of 2018. A car accident left me paralysed and bed-bound for three years. I had to go back to the Netherlands, where I once swore I would never return, and deal with what had happened to me. It took three years of surgery and recovery. But I was able to walk again. And in those three years of silence, lying in bed, and nothing but staring at the ceiling, I made myself another promise; “Once I can walk again, I will stop being a victim of what happened to me, and I will make something of my life” The chronic pain I was left with after the surgery made it impossible to keep a traditional 9-to-5. So, I decided to build a remote business. My own days of work, my own hours to set, the freedom to travel and move around, and to take care of my health. I turned my background in recruitment, HR, sales, customer service, and client acquisition into a system that helped me land remote clients. Not long after I started, I was fully booked and took my remote business to the next level. I learned how to navigate the remote market and quickly started coaching other women doing the same. These days, my business is built on two different branches. I help CEOs and family offices build infrastructure, and I coach women to build their own remote businesses.
